Monday
Today it started to set in that we were leaving soon. I took this time to personally reflect on the trip and what I have learned. We had a quiet day, with lectures and study time. The rest of the day was for us to spend any way we wanted. Some of us visited the lake, others hung around trying to get some work done, and a few even used the kitchen in the hostel. Some of us took a trip to the grocery store and went shopping, Slovenia-style. The supermarket was huge, and was part of a mall! It was interesting to see how the city buildings including government buildings and shopping areas were all in one area and outside of that area were houses and hills. Everything, more or less, was in the same area (shopping wise), so once you took the FREE BUS to the center of town you had access to everything you'd want. We ate our dinner and headed to the town to eat desert. The town is so lively and filled with families and people riding bikes (FREE). Have I mentioned the bike lanes? Velenje has bike lanes that are part of the sidewalk, which is safer for the rider and drivers. This also brings more initiative to choose to use a bike over a car, reducing pollution and saving money by not wasting gas!
